Our house was built in the late 1960's and until we moved here there wasn't a tree on the property which didn't outdate the house! Because of the age of our trees, especially the FOUR silver maples we inherited (Bob calls them WEEDS, and that isn't far from the truth), we've had loads of tree-trouble, lo these 10 years.
In the past two years we've severely trimmed three of the silver maples, and said goodbye to the 4th, which was too close to the house to begin with. We've also bid a sad farewell to a blue spruce (because of storm damage) and a not-so-sad farewell to the single crab apple on our lot. That tree – and it's crab apple-missiles whenever we mowed – is not missed, at least by me!
At any rate, all this tree drama has left a large portion of our front yard conspicuously tree-less. SO, we took matters into our own hands and purchased this new pear tree. I can't wait to see it planted. It's supposed to be a "rapid" grower, so it may well be mature by the time Bob lets me sell this house. HA!
I do hope it winds up being as beautiful as this picture:
